"Call on Me when you are in trouble." (Psalm 50:15)

God is always ready to hear and to help us. Look to Him. He can turn your greatest troubles into blessings, and give you added reason to praise Him now and throughout Eternity.

God is love. His Word is trustworthy. He will never fail you nor forsake you.

Dear friend, are you in trouble this morning. God says, "Call upon Me in the time of trouble. I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me." (Psalm 50:15)

"What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear.
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer."

"Beware! Guard against every kind of greed." (Luke 12:15)
Jesus, who knows our every weakness, warns us. We don’t need much here, for we shall not be here long! We’re on our way to the land of plenty, rest and joy. A little with the Lord’s blessing is enough.
If we are living by faith in the Lord Jesus He guarantees us all that we need.
Everyone has a tendency to covetousness and it is a fearful sin. It is idolatry. It steals our hearts from God, and sets our thoughts on things of no lasting value. A covetous person is an unhappy person.
Our Lord says, "Beware" and "Covet only the best gifts" (1 Corinthians 12:31) that is the spiritual blessings which He is ever ready to give us.
"Now none but Christ can satisfy!
No other name for me.
There’s love, and life, and lasting joy
Lord Jesus, found in Thee."

"The love that God has for us." (1 John 4:16)

Who can describe it? It is infinite; It is eternal; Only the Holy Spirit can reveal it to us. The Holy Spirit enables us to believe.

Let us pray daily to know and enjoy God’s love for us. Our friends change but the love of God is unchangeable.

Who, or what can separate us from the love of God?

Jesus has told us that we shall never perish, and that no one can pluck us out of God’s hand. (John 10:29)

The love of our God is the source of our happiness, and the cause of our safety.

O, to know and believe the love that God has for us.

"The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell.
It goes beyond the highest star
And reaches to the lowest hell.
The guilty pair, bowed down with care
God gave His Son to win;
The erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin."

"Son, go work today in My vineyard." (Matthew 21:28)

Believers enjoy spiritual rebirth by the Holy Spirit, and are adopted by God into His Family. He does not intend us to be idle. He commands us with love and authority, "Son, go work."

We are to work for God’s glory, for the good of others, and to store up for ourselves treasure in heaven. It is a great honour to work for God, and there is work for all. The invitation is to work today - while you have light, strength and opportunity.

Are you standing idle all the day? Go into "His vineyard."

Are you discouraged? Do what you can. As you look to the Lord, He will give ability, opportunity and crown with success.

More of His grace to others show;
More of his saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me."

"The Lord will give grace and glory." (Psalm 84:11)

This is great news!

We are 100% dependant on the Lord’s grace to be sanctified, and without His grace we will not be glorified.

It is all God’s free gift. The Lord has given grace to millions. He has given us grace; He will give us more grace; grace to fit us for duty; grace to support us in troubles; grace to sanctify us; and He will give us grace in perfection which is Glory.

Our God delights to help us. Let us confess our sins before Him, seek grace from Him, and wait to be glorified in Him.

Our all is in God; our all must come from God; and all the glory should be daily given to God.

Whenever we want grace, ask God for it. He gives liberally.

Let our prayer be this day, "Lord, give us more grace this day ; grace to devote us to Your service, and fill us with holy love."

O for more grace, so that we may give God more glory!

"For God the Lord’s a sun and shield:
He’ll grace and glory give;
And will withhold no good from them
That uprightly do live." (Psalm 84:11)

"Am I in God’s place?" (Genesis 30:2)

All our mercies are from God, and our miseries are from ourselves.

We often depart from God, or put friends in His place. Both ourselves and our friends are insufficient. No one can take God’s place - not the richest, the wisest, the kindest, nor the nearest relative or friend!

Our God can take the place of all. He can be instead of father, husband, child, wealth and health.

As you look to Him, He will never fail you nor forsake you. Never, never put anyone in God’s place.

"To Your Glory You will bring me
With Your counsel as my guide.
I have none but You in heaven:
All on earth I lay aside.
Flesh and heart may fail, but ever
God my portion will abide."

"In everything give thanks." (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Our Loving Heavenly Father gives the abilities, talents and opportunities to enjoy life, His wonderful creation and His amazing salvation. Thanksgiving is the way we have of acknowledging His goodness and mercy. Thanksgiving is never out of place-we have so much to praise God for!

All our blessings come through Jesus, and all our praises must ascend through Him, for our Father only accepts what is presented in the name of His Beloved son.

"Godliness with contentment gives great gain." (1 Timothy 6:6)

Fanny Crosby, the great hymn writer, was born blind. When she was only eight she wrote the following verse:

"O what a happy soul I am
Although I cannot see.
I am resolved that in this life
Contented I shall be!
How many blessings I enjoy
Which other people don’t;
To weep and moan because I’m blind
I cannot, and I won’t."

In Jesus all our needs are met.
Are you seeking the Lord? He is Jesus, the gracious, powerful, willing Saviour who perfectly reveals God the Father.
Are you worried or depressed? He is Jesus, the unchanging Friend who stays closer than a brother, and understands your every need.
Are you a returning backslider? He is Jesus, and He says, "I will receive you; I will heal and restore you; I will rejoice over you as the shepherd did over the sheep he had lost."
We all change, but Jesus never changes! He is able and willing to help us. He is full of compassion for all who call on Him.

When you truly believe in Jesus you have a new nature. You live by new guidelines. The Holy Spirit living in you changes you.

"Abraham waited patiently and so received what God had promised." (Hebrews 6:15)

Abraham’s patience was severely tested –but he was eventually richly rewarded.

He had to wait twenty five years for the promised son. He endured Satan’s temptations. He did not question God’s faithfulness nor limit His power. He faced delays with silence, waiting for God’s timing, and so having patiently endured he obtained the promise.

God’s promises cannot fail! Abraham’s example teaches us to be quietly submissive to God’s will and await with expectation God’s reward.

"You guide me with Your counsel." (Psalm 73:24)

All who have a personal relationship with God through faith in the Lord Jesus, know God and trust Him.

The writer of this psalm has surrendered fully to God, to be led where He pleases. Such surrender comes through faith in the promises of the Bible.

All who are guided by God are protected by Him; their every need is supplied; and He receives each one. He receives us now as we pray, and He will receive us in heaven.

Have you surrendered to the Lord? Are you daily surrendering? Can you say to the Lord, "You guide me with Your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny" (Psalm 73:24)?

"When I stand in glory,
I will see His face,
And there I’ll serve my King forever,

"Surely your salvation is coming." (Isaiah 62:11)

The Lord’s people may have to face many difficult situations, and be utterly perplexed; but the present is the worst state they will ever be in; they are hastening to the Day of the Lord, which is for them the Day of Deliverance. Their salvation is coming; they will soon be free from all sickness, from all sin, from all who trouble them, and from all the cares of this world.

Beloved, why are you so fearful? Your salvation is coming; His reward is with Him. The time of deliverance is at hand, the year of release is near, the trumpet of the Jubilee will soon be heard. Our Saviour will arrive to lead us to our Father’s many mansions which He has prepared for us, and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Comfort one another with these words, "Behold, the Bridegroom comes, go out to meet Him." (Matthew 25:6)

O to be ready for His coming, and to share in His Glory.

"I’m so glad I learned to trust You,
Precious Jesus, Saviour, Friend;
And I know that You are with me,
Will be with me to the end."

"In the day of my trouble, I will call upon You, for You will answer me." (Psalm 86:7)

David was absolutely sure that God would answer his prayer.

How can we be sure that He will answer us?

All sin must be confessed and forsaken; for if we keep sin in our hearts, the Lord will not accept our prayers.

Our prayers must be sincere and specific.

We must pray in submission to the will of God: "Not my will but Your’s , O Lord." (Matthew 26:39)

Our motives must be pure so that God is glorified.

We must pray with perseverance.

We must offer all our prayers in the name of Jesus.

We must pray in faith.

"Hear my earnest prayer, O Lord;
Listen to my troubled cry.
In distress I’ll call on You,
For in mercy You’ll reply." (Sing Psalms 86:7)

The Believer's Daily Remembrancer, October 18

Our loving Heavenly Father has our best interests at heart at all times.

If we look to man we will be disappointed. We cannot do better than look to the Lord, as our Master to direct; as our Father to provide; as our God to defend and comfort. His name is "a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are safe" (Proverb 18:10).

Looking to Jesus will preserve us from a thousand snares, and prepare us to suffer as Christians and triumph as conquerors.

The eyes of the Lord are always upon us; may our eyes be looking to Him.

Let us look to Him for all that we need; from all we fear; through all that hinders us; and so "press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us." (Philippians 3:14)

"They look to Him, and shine with joy;
They are not put to shame.
This suffering man cried to the Lord;
From Him deliverance came." (Sing Psalms 34:5-6)

"My strength is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9)

The more a Christian feels his weakness, the more he should expect his Saviour to help and strengthen him. The strength of Jesus is given, enjoyed and displayed in our greatest troubles.

Never was Abraham so strong, as when offering up his much loved Isaac; never were the martyrs so strong as when in prison they cried out to Jesus for strength; and depending on His faithfulness and love, they left all and faced death triumphantly.

Let us live by faith.

When we feel weakest the strength of Jesus is nearest.

He shows His great mercy by giving power to the faint, and increasing the strength of the weak.

Let us depend on Him, for "we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us." (Philippians 4:13) He is our strength, a very present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1)

‘We go in faith, our own great weakness feeling,
And needing more each day Thy grace to know,
Yet from our hearts a song of triumph pealing,
We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.’

"The Lord will be your confidence." (Proverbs 3:26)

Our happiness flows from knowing and believing God. If we know His true character, we believe His precious Word; and if we believe His Word, we enjoy peace and satisfaction. He is able and willing to make us holy and happy.

We may tell Him all that troubles us; from Him we may receive all that we need; with Him we may walk and enjoy peace. We may trust fully in God, for He has power, love and faithfulness. He will never turn away from us; but will delight to help us.

Trust in Him, believe His Word, pray always and seek His Glory in all things.

Are you troubled, fearful and depressed? Submit to God, and you will have peace. "Those who trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Zion which cannot be moved." (Psalm 125:1) Let us hold fast the confidence we had at the beginning!

"He marvelled at their unbelief." (Mark 6:6)

Just think what God has done to remove doubt.

He has shown us His character, "God is love." He has proclaimed, "Now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." He has invited us, "Look to Me, and be saved." He has appealed to us, "Come back to God." He has commanded us, "This is His commandment, that you should believe on the name of His Son, Jesus Christ." He has given His Son as a guarantee, to assure us that "whoever believes in Him shall never perish, but have Eternal Life." We have the witness of the Holy Spirit to our spirits that we are His.

No wonder Christ marvels at our unbelief! Never make excuses for unbelief, but let us pray against it until we conquer it.

"Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, wash’d in His blood.
This if my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long."

Jesus is the Great Physician! He heals both spiritually and physically. He restores the fainting, the dying and the dead! Believers in Jesus shall rise to perfect health and holiness.

This morning is your heart hard, unbelieving or wounded? Jesus says to you "Come and be healed." He is the perfect master of every disease. He doesn’t look for payment from us but He does look for full surrender to Him.

Trust-and be happy! Jesus alone will strengthen you. Look to no other. Stay close to Him. Lay open your whole case to Him. Be grateful to Him, and show your thankfulness by recommending Him to others.

"Be sure your sins will find you out." (Numbers 32:23)

Sin cannot be hidden. God sees it! When we sin, we need to acknowledge it, confess it to God and forsake it. Otherwise sin will find us out and we will face God’s punishment.

The Bible is full of examples. No matter how secret the sin, God is a witness and He will bring it to light.

"He that covers his sin shall not prosper; BUT HE THAT CONFESSES AND FORSAKES HIS SIN SHALL FIND MERCY." (Proverbs 28:13)

Don’t think that because God loves us, He will not expose our sin. He assures us "our sin will find us out." (Numbers 32:23)

Oh, to hate sin as God hates it, and to be delivered from it. It is the cause of all our troubles.

"If we confess our sins to God, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9)

"Keep yourselves safe in God’s love." (Jude 21)

As believers in Jesus, we know that God loves us and we seek to love Him in return. His love is absolutely free, unspeakably great and eternal.

How do we keep ourselves in His love? We aim to live lives of faith and obedience, meditating on His love and giving thanks daily for it.

Nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord. God’s love protects us when tempted by Satan, the snares of the world and the lusts of the flesh.

As we daily study God’s Word and pray, we are encouraged to oppose everything unholy and forbidden- and we grow in grace and in the knowledge and experience of God’s amazing love. Thus we are enabled to love Him who first loved us – and to love one another.

"O Lord, fill me with Your love."

"Ask the Saviour to help you,
Comfort, strengthen and keep you,
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through."

"Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for His own?" (Romans 8:33)

All who have come to believe in Jesus are greatly blessed.

We are still sinners - we know it and it makes us sad. Satan tries every strategy to harm us and lead us into sin. But praise God, sin will not have dominion over us. The Holy Spirit, working in our hearts, keeps us longing after holiness and striving against sin. We aim at God’s glory and we long to be a blessing to others.

Because the Lord Jesus has taken the punishment of our sins, we know that we have been forgiven. We can boldly ask- "Who dares to accuse us?"

Will God? No - for He is perfectly satisfied with the sacrifice on the cross which the Lord Jesus made for all who will believe.

Will our consciences? No - for we know that we have been forgiven.

Can Satan? Definitely not - for he is cast out, his testimony cannot be received, having long since been proved a liar.

Will Jesus? No - for He chose to die for us rather than condemn us.

"Oh, the love that drew Salvation’s plan,
Oh, the grace that brought it down to man,
Oh, the mighty gulf that God did span
At Calvary.* (*where Jesus died on the Cross.)
Mercy there was great, and grace was free,
Pardon there was multiplied for me,
There my burdened soul found liberty
At Calvary.”

"The helpless commits himself to You." (Psalm 10:14)

Those who appear to be friendless can have the best and truest Friend! Often the Lord’s people may be poor but they are not friendless nor forsaken! They have Jehovah for their God, Jesus for their Saviour, and the Holy Spirit for their Comforter and Guide. They know God and they commit themselves to Him.

How do they commit themselves? As a sick man does to his doctor; as the poor to his rich and generous friend; as a sinner to the Saviour; as a loving wife to her beloved husband.

Why do they commit themselves to Him? They commit themselves to His grace to be saved by it, to His power to be kept by it, to His Word to be ruled by it, to His care to be protected by it, and to His love at death to be safely taken to the glories of heaven. All this flows from grace, and produces peace, safety and happiness.

Let us daily commit ourselves to the Lord who is able and willing to help us in every situation. Praise to His Great Name!

"What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear.
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer."

"We will remember Your love." (Song of Solomon 1:4)

Jesus, in His great love, left heaven’s glory to be the only sacrifice for sin that is sufficient to bring us into fellowship with God. How He raises us to glory, honour and eternal life! Through Him we have everything we need for the Christian life.

Let us remember His love to comfort us amid changing friendships; to encourage us when discouraged; to produce trust in times of trial and to make us keen to serve Him.

His love is beyond our understanding. Our daily prayer should be for more love for Jesus. "We love Him for He first loved us." (1 John 4:19)

"May the love of Jesus fill me
As the waters fill the sea.
Him exalting, self abasing-
this is victory!"

"He who loves Me, will be loved by My Father." (John 14:21)

Do we love Jesus?

If we love Him we will want to know Him more and more; to serve Him more cheerfully; and to enjoy Him continually.

If we love Jesus we are willing to spend time studying His Word, and praying to Him; to part with what He forbids, and seek to do what He commands.

If we love Him we want to be always with Him.

If we love Him, He tell us His Father will love us. If God loves us, what good thing will He keep from us? He will glorify Himself in us. He will do for us far more than we expect or think!

To be loved by God is to enjoy the highest honour, and to be heirs of the greatest happiness one can possibly enjoy.

"Lord, teach me to know You; teach me to love You; teach me to keep Your commandments."

More of His love to others show,
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me."

"Only acknowledge your sin." (Jeremiah 3:13)

The more we read the Bible and follow Jesus, the more we realize what sin is! It is not only doing bad things, but also failing to do the good things we should do. We sin in thought, word and action.

As believers in Jesus, We enjoy fellowship with God, and know His joy and peace.

Sometimes we find it really hard to read our Bibles and pray, and we need to ask ourselves, "Have we sinned?" If we are not making spiritual progress, we are backsliding. God, in His great love, calls us to confess our sins to Him and know His peace and joy restored to us.

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9)

Let us daily confess our sins to Him. All praise to our Loving Heavenly Father!

"How can the young keep their life pure?
By doing what Your Word demands!
I seek You with my heart and soul,
Let me not stray from Your commands."

"The righteousness which is from God by faith." (Philippians 3:9)

God’s law requires perfect obedience. This is impossible for us because of our sinful natures.

The Lord Jesus has provided perfect righteousness to all who will come to Him confessing their sin and need. It is presented to us in the everlasting gospel and all who believe are honoured with Eternal Life. It comes to us from God by faith.

Every unbeliever, or self-righteous person rejects this righteousness - but every believer discovers the beauty, glory and value of it; enjoys it as God’s greatest gift to us and our greatest treasure for time and eternity.

"When He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring.
Then, anew this song we’ll sing
Hallelujah! What a Saviour!"

"I will not harm you." (Jeremiah 25:6)

It is impossible that a God of love and compassion would ever harm His children.

God sent His ancient people as captives to Babylon but it was for their good. He allowed His children to be cast into the fiery furnace and into the lions’ den. They were blessed through it. God was with them all the way and their faith was strengthened.

Even to-day many believers face severe trials which may be impossible to understand but our heavenly Father assures us, "What I do, you do not know now- but you will know afterwards." (John 13:7)

When we reach heaven we shall testify that all was for our good and our loving Heavenly Father has done all things well.

"No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me,
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand."
