Sometimes people fail to make a right investment. The man in Luke chapter 12 was one of them. He was a rich man, but made the poor investment for eternity.
In Luke chapter 9, Jesus was traveling to Jerusalem. He taught about correct priority in life in chapter 10, and about eternity in chapter 12.
Luke 12:13-21 say about storing up treasure on earth, and Luke 12:22-34 about storing up treasure in heaven.
Storing Up Treasure on Earth (1)
As Jesus was teaching, He was interrupted. There was one man asked Him to divide the inheritance for him.
13 Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me."
14 But he said to him, "Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?"
15 And he said to them, "Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." (Luke 12:13-15 ESV)
It is a quite normal thing to happen in that time. When a father died, the inheritance would be divided between the sons. And the rabbi would be consulted to make a decision.
But Jesus saw beyond the question into this man's heart. The man was simply concern about his property. He was greedy and covetous. So Jesus warned him against these things. He warned him against the covetousness, greed, and wanting more than what he need.

14 แต่พระองค์ตรัสตอบเขาว่า "พ่อหนุ่ม ใครตั้งเราให้เป็นผู้พิพากษาหรือเป็นผู้แบ่งมรดกให้ท่าน?"
15 แล้วพระองค์ตรัสกับพวกเขาว่า "ระวังให้ดี จงหลีกเลี่ยงจากความโลภทุกอย่าง เพราะว่าชีวิตของคนไม่ได้อยู่ที่การมีของฟุ่มเฟือย" (ลูกา 12:13-15 THSV2011)
