Daily Devotional, May 23
The Christian has many enemies, but there is one emphatically called "the enemy." He is the god of this world.
He is the "prince of the power of the air"; he rules over and works in all unbelievers. He is a cunning serpent, trying to deceive; a roaring lion, seeking to destroy. He gains access to our hearts. He knows the Bible well, and will often use it, in order to misapply it; he will use one part to fill us with fear; another part to lead us to make light of sin. He is always trying to draw us away from God.
It is only as we abide in Jesus, that we can overcome Satan. Faith lays hold of the perfect work of Christ on the cross as its shield, and the Bible as its sword, and thus overcomes all the fiery darts of the enemy. Let us put on the whole armour of God!
