God wants people to be happy. And the only way we can be happy is by following his instructions. So he gave us his Word, his written Word, to make very clear to us where our life comes from and how we can keep it.
BUT again and again we think our ideas are better than God's. And we turn from life to death.
The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
I [Daniel] prayed to the LORD my God and made confession, saying, "O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and rules. We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
To you, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but to us open shame . . . because we have sinned against you. To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, for we have rebelled against him and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God by walking in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. All Israel has transgressed your law and turned aside, refusing to obey your voice.

ธรรมบัญญัติของพระยาห์เวห์ดีพร้อม และฟื้นฟูชีวิต พระโอวาทของพระยาห์เวห์นั้นแน่นอน ทำให้คนรู้น้อยtมีปัญญา ข้อบังคับของพระยาห์เวห์นั้นถูกต้อง ทำให้ใจยินดี พระบัญญัติของพระยาห์เวห์นั้นบริสุทธิ์ ทำให้ดวงตากระจ่างแจ้ง ความยำเกรงพระยาห์เวห์นั้นสะอาดหมดจด ถาวรเป็นนิตย์ กฎหมายของพระยาห์เวห์ก็สัตย์จริง และชอบธรรมทั้งสิ้น
น่าปรารถนามากกว่าทองคำ ยิ่งกว่าทองบริสุทธิ์มากนัก หวานยิ่งกว่าน้ำผึ้ง ที่หยดลงจากรวง อนึ่ง สิ่งเหล่านี้เป็นที่ตักเตือนผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ การรักษาข้อความเหล่านั้นก็ได้บำเหน็จยิ่งใหญ่
ข้าพเจ้า (ดาเนียล) ได้อธิษฐานต่อพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของข้าพเจ้า และสารภาพว่า "ข้าแต่องค์เจ้านาย พระเจ้าผู้ใหญ่ยิ่งและน่าเกรงขาม ผู้ทรงรักษาพันธสัญญาและความรักมั่นคงต่อผู้ที่รักพระองค์และปฏิบัติตามพระบัญญัติของพระองค์ ข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลายได้ทำบาป และได้ทำผิด ได้ก่อการอธรรมและการกบฏ ได้หันจากพระบัญญัติและกฎหมายของพระองค์ ข้าพระองค์ไม่ได้ฟังบรรดาผู้เผยพระวจนะผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ ผู้กล่าวในพระนามของพระองค์ต่อบรรดากษัตริย์ของข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลาย ทั้งต่อบรรดาผู้นำและบรรพบุรุษของข้าพระองค์ รวมทั้งประชาชนทุกคนของแผ่นดิน
ข้าแต่องค์เจ้านาย ความชอบธรรมเป็นของพระองค์ แต่ความอับอายควรแก่พวกข้าพระองค์จนถึงทุกวันนี้ ... เพราะข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลายได้ทำบาปต่อพระองค์ พระกรุณาและการอภัยโทษเป็นขององค์เจ้านายพระเจ้าของข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลาย เพราะว่าพวกข้าพระองค์ได้กบฏต่อพระองค์ และไม่เชื่อฟังพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลายที่ให้ทำตามธรรมบัญญัติของพระองค์ ซึ่งทรงตั้งไว้ต่อหน้าข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลาย ผ่านบรรดาผู้เผยพระวจนะผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ อิสราเอลทั้งชาติได้ทำผิดต่อธรรมบัญญัติของพระองค์และได้หันไปเสีย ไม่เชื่อฟังพระองค์"
